Skipper your way to unique memories and fun aboard our self-drive holiday houseboats! The fully self-catering houseboats make the ideal getaway from the huh-bub of city (or town) life. Whether opting for a romantic weekend away, a quick midweek escape, family outing or that fishing trip that lets you fish from dusk till dawn, you are sure to find the Kowie River and unspoilt riverine views to be the ideal setting for any escape from life and responsibilities! The trip starts with a brief safety briefing, and possibly a short temporary skippers course if you don’t have a valid skippers license. Load your gear, partner, kids and drinks and you are all set to start your special trip. You will want for nothing on the boat! The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove (2 plates), gas oven, electrical fridge and all the utensils, pots, glasses and cutlery you will need. A gas geyser makes for warm showers (yes there is a shower and porta potty on board) and easy washing up in the sink. The Tranquillity sleeps up to 5 people and can accommodate up to 7 people on a day trip. Bring along some charcoal and have a braai on the small weber available on board!

The main sleeping quarters in the nose of the bed hosts a double bed with a couch for a little one whilst the dining table in the common area folds down into another double bed. All bedding supplied, simply bring towels and washing goodies.

The rear section has seating for daytime cruising, with a canopy to keep the African sun at bay. For the more adventurous, a tanning deck on the roof provides great views all round where you can get that sun-kissed look to be envied by all. Remember to bring sun screen!

You are now the captain of your own boat, with 13km of meandering Kowie River views to absorb the stresses of life as you chug along. Each new bend in the river unfolds a new vista, so keep your camera handy!

Towering cliffs and ancient milk wood trees guard the river banks at places, whilst bushbuck, duiker and Mansfield’s giraffes stare from a distance as you cruise past. Birdlife abounds and makes for great viewing for avid birders, with echoes of fish-eagles a constant reminder that you are totally enveloped by nature.

For fishermen, the river yields regular catches of grunter, leer fish, kob as well as the all-present flatties. Imagine not having to pack up when the sun sets, allowing you enjoy the chase of a leerie before it smashes your lure! Time to target shoals of big kob and grunter deep into the night. What more could an angler ask for?

Stop over at Mansfield Private Game reseserve, 11km upriver and stretch you legs while the kids play in a safe, enclosed play area. Pay a day fee and make use of their braai facilities, book a game drive or have dinner in season at the Black Rock restaurant!
